Lazy-bed ridges covered large areas of the township in blocks which rarely extended to more than a hectare, indeed many of the blocks were much smaller. It is difficult now to calculate the total area of lazy-bed cultivation, since there has been modern plough cultivation in some areas in the last twenty years, particularly in the area to the S and W of Unish House, but also to the N. There are globular enclosures around some of the lazy-beds and there are several large rectilinear fields defined by drystone walls, of which one to the SW of Unish House pre-dates the drystone wall that cuts off the peninsula in the late 19th century and is recorded on the second edition of the Ordnance Survey map of 1904 (Island of Skye &c., Inverness-shire 1904, sheet v).
Visited by RCAHMS (PJD) 1 November 1990.
