Full Description
Situated S of Dunbeath Water, 650m W of Loedebest is a post medieval settlement comprising three buildings, associated dykes and field systems. One building (at ND 1288 3204) is small and rectangular and isolated some way to the W of the main settlement. The other two buildings include one small rectangular building and a long house. The long house has stone walls attached to the NW and NE; the wall to the NE forms part of a stone walled enclosure. There are faint traces of wall foundations to the SE of the long house and this could indicate the existence of an earlier settlement on this site. There is evidence for rig cultivation alongside the river.
Information from Historic Scotland July 1992.
A farmstead comprising one unroofed long building and two enclosures is depicted on the 1st edition of OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet xxxviii), but the building at ND 1288 3204 is not shown. Two unroofed buildings and two enclosures are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10,560 map (1962).
Information from RCAHMS (AKK) 5 January 1996.
