(Name: ND 1055 6858) Gallow Hill (NAT)
OS 6" map, Caithness, 2nd ed., (1907)

Gallow Hill: A slight eminence situated about half a mile W of Thurso. MacKay (1829) mentions: "There was a large stone on this hill at one time and it was erected to commemorate the hanging of the last two of the band of Highlandmen who took part in a skirmish in Thurso, between Donald Macalister, an Irishman who fought under Montrose, and the Thurso men. This affair happended on a Sunday in the year 1649".
Name Book 1872; R MacKay 1829.

No evidence of antiquity is to be seen on Gallow Hill.

The area is now covered by a housing scheme.
