Full Description

NG37SE 6 3992 7023.

(NG 3992 7023) Enclosure (NR)
OS 6"map, (1966)

A circular enclosure situated in a fairly sheltered position in a wet hollow. It consists of a faced rubble wall 1.6m thick and measuring in diameter 25.5m between its centres and generally spread to 2.5m in all save the S arc, where it expands to 3.5m and is backed by turf which increases its spread to 5.5m. There is an entrance gap in the N arc aboout 3.0m across. Internally at the base of the wall is a ditch which is probably to facilitate drainage of the boggy interior.
This is not a defensive feature and not a hut circle and its situation and condition suggest it is a medieval or later cattlefold.
Visited by OS (C F W) 27 April 1961 and (I S S) 16 September 1971.
