At the freestone quarries at King's Steps is the site of an old mill. Near the mill wheel a spot in the rock bearing marks like hoofprints used to be pointed out, traditionally made by the King's horse, hence the name "King's Steps".
G Bain 1890

The marked rock is sited to NH 90025719 from information received from the curator of the Nairn Museum. No information was obtained about the mill mentioned by Bain.
Visited by OS (EGC) 1 December 1961

No traces are now visible of the mill noted by Bain, in what is now an overgrown quarry.
RCAHMS 1978, visited March 1978.
