Full Description
On the E side of the Allt na Cille, between the burn and the plantation, there are the remains of two rectangular buildings and various banks and trackways.
(formerly NH57NW 8.03.01)
The smaller of the two buildings situated on the E side of the Allt na Cille is built of large boulders and measures 4m from N-S by 3m overall and has an entrance in the E side. A stony bank leads off to the S and a trackway cuts a sinuous course uphill to the E. The larger building, 12m to the N is terraced into the slope and measures 8m from N to S by 3.5m overall. On the slope above the building the E side of the gully incised by the burn has been cut by several trackways.
(formerly NH57NW 8.03.02)
Some 30m to the N of the buildings a well-preserved enclosure bank 0.5m high runs from the edge of the burn up the steep sides of the gully before proceeding along the contour and into the plantation where it was traced for 10m. It is built of large boulders and earth and is covered by rank vegetation.
RAF aerial photographs (CPE/SCOT/UK 184, 1120, flown 1946) show that this bank forms part of an enclosure some 200m long and 30m wide on the E side of the Allt na Cille.
