Full Description
NC 988 646. An empty short cist with what was probably a fairly modern capstone was found at Achiegullan. Many years ago, a cist containing an urn was found in the field immediately SE of Achiegullan House.
A S Henshall 1958.
Achiegullan House apparently lay to W of present Achiegullan, and no further information could be obtained on the cist containing the urn. The empty short cist, which was found by Mr Forbes (W Forbes, Achiegullan, Reay), 0.2m below the surface while ploughing in 1958, is still in situ at NC 9881 6451. Constructed of four flat stone slabs and a slate capstone which is now split in two, it measures 1.3m by 1m and 0.8m deep.
Surveyed at 1:2500. Visited by OS (R D) 13 November 1964.
