Full Description

Renumbered from NC96NE0014C
JHooper, 5/10/2002
----
NC96SE 23 9716 6301.
A sub-rectangular enclosure which has been cut through by an old turf dyke. The remains on the S side of the dyke are almost square on plan measuring about 15m across. It is formed by large boulders now mainly turf-covered. On N side of the dyke, the enclosure has extended for 11m, and this end is somewhat rounded. It is less pronounced than the S part, and one gets the impression that it was reutilised at the time the dyke was constructed. It is quite clear that the enclosure pre-dates the dyke, which in turn pre-dates the dry stone dykes nearby. The enclosuue appears to have served as a stockpen. Visited by OS (J L D) 24 May 1960.
