Monument record MHG768 - Shieling Hut, Croc Nan Lair

Situated on E and W banks of the Sleach Water are numerous shieling foundations, banks and an oval, banked enclosure. The banks were probably constructed to counteract flooding and the enclosure takes form of a platform on which are the foundations of a building. The shielings vary in size from 3 by 2m to 18 by 3m and in height from 0.1 to 0.8m.

Croc nan Lair: an old shieling ground in which are turf-covered footings of at least 23 shieling bothies. The banks and the oval banked enclosure noted in the previous field report are natural, deriving from previous course or courses of the Sleach Water.
