Full Description

On a level terrace on an E-facing slope, are the heather-covered footings of a rectangular enclosure measuring 17m N-S by 3.7m transversely within a wall of large rubble stones 1.5m wide and 0.5m high. The inner face of massive blocks set on edge is visible intermittently; one such block protrudes 0.8m and is 1.4m long. On W side is a conjoined enclosure or annexe of similar construction and state of preservation, with a gap in the wall between them. It is about 10m long internally and the width varies from 2.8-4m. There is no trace of an entrance to either of these structures. There is little or no debris within the two enclosures and no evidence of stone pillars, yet in respect of plan and wall construction techniques, they are similar to the rectangular aisled homesteads common to Caithness (see ND02NW 2).
Surveyed at 1:10,000. Visited by OS (N K B) 8 November 1982.
