Full Description
NH57NE 20 5837 7565
This farmstead is situated on a knoll in rough rocky ground between the forestry plantation and the valley floor, 600m SE of Dalmore. It comprises at least three and possibly as many as five buildings and one or two small enclosures. A narrow path runs along the contour towards the farmstead from the NW and is marked by a stony terrace or bank on its downward side. The path leads towards a roughly circular fold built of rough boulders, attached to a long building of three unequal compartments with grass-covered footings up to 0.4m high. A terraced trackway leads down from E end of building. A building of 2 compartments at right angles to it is terraced 1.2m into steep slope immediately to SE.
Of the remaining structures at least one appears to have been a building. This is set at the foot of the slope to the N and has a curiously placed subsidiary structure or outshot at its N corner. The possible short building with what appears to be a bedneuk stands up to 1m high. The fifth possible building is attached to a bank below the terraced trackway to the E of the main building. Its low grass-covered footings are fragmentary and only stand 0.2m in height.
At foot of slope there is also a pool in a depression 13m long and 5m wide; it has stone revetments at either end, joined by a dyke on SW.
