Full Description
NH57NE 7 5643 7762
A farmstead comprising at least two buildings is situated on the SW side of Strath Rusdale, about 450m SW of Braeantra. The larger building, which has probably been rebuilt as a sheepfold and has an inserted partition with a lintelled creep midway along its length, measures 20.8m E-W by 4.9m over walls 0.7m in thickness and up to 1.1m in height; an outshot has been added to the W end and a lintelled drain outflow is visible in the E end. There are two entrances in S wall and a boulder-kerbed plinth is also visible along central section of this wall. The enclosure on the N side of this building appears to be of later date. The second building is set at right-angles to first, some 10m to W; it measures 9.1m by 4.5m over walls 0.7m in thickness and from 0.3m to 0.8m in height and entrance is midway along E wall. What may be W end of a third building is visible immediately S of E end of the first building.
Visited by RCAHMS (SPH) 15 November 1989.
Two unroofed buildings, one of which has an attached enclosure, are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Ross-shire and Cromartyshire 1880, sheet lii). One unroofed building with an attached enclosure is shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1986).
