Full Description

Centred ND 0915 4380. At Lon nam Beist on cleared ground N of the track to Achscoriclate are remains of five shielings. They consist of usual low grassy mounds but only northernmost two show definite outlines of rectangular structures. On one nearest to stream structure measures about 3 by 2m, and on other, some 104m SE, it measures about 4 by 3m. The other three are very vague, but in view of their position and close proximity to the first two, they also are probably remains of shielings. Some 45m SW of where the Allt nam Beist cuts the track to Achscoriclate and on the bank of the stream is a mutilated grassy mound on top of which are outlines of two small rectangular foundations measuring about 5 by 3m and 3m square respectively. There is a large grassy mound, very mutilated on top, and showing no evidence of a foundation on top, on S side of road about 100m SE of where Allt nam Beist cuts road. In view of its position, on S edge of cleared land at Lon nam Beist, it is probably remains of another shieling.
Visited by OS (W D J) 17 April 1961.
