Monument record MHG876 - Hut Circle, Lon Nam Beist

Some 680m ENE of where Allt nam Beist cuts road to Achscoriclate at Lon nam Beist, is a large grassy mound measuring about 20m N-S by 17m transversely. On top of mound is a scatter of stones and there is the vague outline of a rectangular structure, possibly a shieling, with possible remains of a sheepfold, about 9m in diameter, on its E side.

A hut circle, heather and turf-covered, at foot of a NW-facing moorland slope. It measures an estimated 9.5 by 8.5m across internally; wall generally is rather obscure, but where best preserved is a stony spread, 3-3.5m broad and up to 0.4m high. An entrance position is in S, on line of the longer axis, but has been obscured by remains of a shieling-type structure in hut interior. A quantity of stone in NW sector of hut interior and on slope flanking W half of hut suggest residue of other shieling-type structures.
