Full Description
NB91SE 1 9598 1200.
Cleit (?) - like structures.
OS 6"map, annotated by I Crawford, September 1961.
Situated by shore on edge of an area of grassland is a fold-like enclosure and a curved length of wall. At the SW terminal of the wall is a small oval chamber, the upper parts of which show traces of inward corbelling as if to form a roof. A bulge at the NE end of the wall probably indicates a similar chamber, now collapsed. Patches of loose stone to the E of the wall may also be the remains of small chambers or pens. All the structures are very crudely built from large boulders from the shore. They appear to have been erected in connection with sheep farming. There is no dating evidence for these features but the very crude construction is indicative of a considerable age.
Visited by OS (G H P) 29 May 1962.
