Full Description

NC82NE 34 8754 2786.

At NC 8754 2786, adjacent to a spring and on the edge of a field system associated with a hut circle settlement (See NC 82 NE 27), is a crescentric-shaped burnt mound, measuring 9.0m across with its open side to the stream in the south. This opening is flanked either side by a total of three earth-fast stones, 1.4m apart and up to 0.2m high. Their purpose is uncertain. Most of the burnt stones have been piled on the downhill (west) side of the central area, where the mound is 1.0m high; on the east and north sides it is a mere 0.2m high.
Surveyed at 1/10,000
Visited by OS (N K B) 8 Feburary 1977

This U-shaped burnt mound is situated on a slight natural terrace and measures 8.6m from WNW to ESE by 7.8m transversely and 1m in height.
The central hollow measures 3.3m by 3.1m across and 0.5m in depth and opens out on the SSW onto a boggy gully. There are unburnt boulders set around the hollow, possibly reveting the mound material. Lifting a sod revealed densely-packed cracked stones set in a matrix of black soil. (KILD91 69)
Visited by RCAHMS (DCC) 10 March 1991.
