Full Description

OS 6"map, (1963)

Centred at NC 821323 on a SW-facing hill-slope is a settlement of five hut circles ('A'-'E') and an accompanying field system; all huts have entrances in the SE. Huts 'A'-'C' were discovered by the previous field investigator (Information from OS (W D J) 18 May 1977)
'A' is 7.8m in diameter within an inner faced defined in the SE by an arc of contiguous slabs on edge and elsewhere by intermittent slabs. The wall is 1.2m wide in the NW, enlarging to a spread of 2.5m at the entrance. The latter is stone-choked with a large slab in situ flanking the SW side of the passage.
'B' and 'C' are similar in form, built up on S side, with heather covered walls spread to 2.5m where preserved. They measure 12m and 10.5 m in internal diameter respectively.
'B' is the better-preserved with the entrance where the wall widens slightly, having a portal stone on S side.
'C' has been partially mutilated by an old road running through it.
'D' has been set into the slope and built up on the SW side. It measures 11m N-S x 9.5m within a fragmentary wall spread to 2.5m at the entrance.
'E' is a hut of slight form immediately to the SW of 'D'. It is 5m in diameter with a wall spread to 1.5m.
A well-preserved field system occupying about 14 hectares surrounds the huts. It comprises numerous clearance heaps, lynchets and a few wasted field walls, defining many irregularly shaped plots, average size 35m x 15m.
Surveyed at 1:10 560. Visited by OS (J B) 28 Feburary 1977
