Full Description
Obsured by heavy peat growth is an ill-defined rectangular building with rounded corners measuring 13m NE-SW by 7.5m transversely between centres of a wall of indeterminate width in which stones can be felt by probing. In S wall are two ill-defined gaps, possibly doorways, about 3m from each end. Of uncertain purpose, this building is in same state of preservation as the hut circles to SE, and is undoubtedly much older than depopulated houses in the area.
Surveyed at 1:10,000. Visited by OS (I S S) 16 March 1972.
(ND 0573 6064) Unannotated rectangular structure shown.
OS 1:10,000 map, (1975)
This feature is obscured by a heavy growth of peat, but it appears to be a smaller version of hut circle with annexe ('key-hole' type) found in Strath of Kildonan (NC91NW 6). The hut circle, set into a slope on a low dry rise, is about 5m in diameter within a heather-covered wall, 0.4m high and spread to 2m wide. The entrance, of simple form, is in SE arc. there is no wall between hut and annexe; the latter is very vague, about 4.5m NW-SE by 5m within a wall similar to hut. A gap in SE may be a mutilation.
The heather cover in vicinity is smooth and uniform, suggesting a former cultivation (see type-site ND06SE 27).
Revised at 1:10,000. Visited by OS (N K B) 18 September 1981.
