Full Description
NC45NW 31 4274 5582.
An early modern turf-enclosure 12 ft by 10 ft on top of a knoll. Eighteen feet to the N is an oval mound with a semi-circle of stones set into the W end suggesting the stoke-hole of a corn-drying kiln, about 10ft long by 6 ft across.
Letter from K Reid to Ordnance Survey, 25 September 1978.
The 'turf enclosure' is a shieling. There are several stony mounds, probably clearance, nearby but none resemble a corn-drying kiln.
Visited by OS (NKB) 8 November 1978.
Two rectangular structures with turf walls were recorded at NC 4274 5582 (MS 738/3, no.11) and NC 4278 5585 (MS 738/3, no.12) during the course of a pre-afforestation survey by AOC (Scotland) Ltd.
