(NC 83382042) Hut Circles (NR)
OS 6"map, (1962)
Two conjoined hut circles were discovered during field investigation. Visited by OS (J L D) 5 June 1961
On the lower south slopes of Cnoc Tuarie is a solitary hut circle, measuring 8.0m in diameter within a boulder-faced wall 1.7m thick. The wall widens slightly at an entrance in the west, where two slabs 0.9m apart flank the passage; there is another entrance in the east arc, now choked with rubble stones. Outside of it, in the manner of a porch or windbreak, is a semi-circular line of contiguous boulders.
Contiguous to the hut in the south arc is a sub-rectangular annexe, 4.5m by 3.0m within a wall of similar construction to the hut, ie boulder-faced internally with a width of 2.0m spread.
The relationship between hut and annexe is obscure despite the similarity in building, and the existence of two entrances to the hut would suggest secondary development.
The only evidence of associated cultivation is the relatively stone-free, smooth appearance of the ground around the hut, and a curving wall of single boulders to the NE, which is probably contemporary.
