Full Description
On a vantage point in rising moorland open to the east, is a well-defined stone-walled hut circle in association with a field system. The latter, of about 2.5 hectares area and on the E approach up to the hut-circle, has a fresh grassy appearance with a little bracken; there is a complete lack of the usual stone clearance heaps, the field system being only denoted by a succession of lynchets that clearly show utilisation of the natural shelving ground. A couple of cultivation plots of approximately 10 by 15m and 20 by 25m are discernible. The hut is 10.1m internal diameter. The wall, the exterior turf-covered but with occasional facing stones in evidence, shows an almost complete inner facing of contiguous boulder slabs on edge continuing into the S side of an entrance from SE to a depth of 2.2m. The wall stands 0.8m high and is generally 1.3m broad.
Outside hut in SE half are signs of stone revetting. Inside hut, obscured by a general profusion of displaced stones, are traces of a later wall enclosing an oval space, about 8m NNW-SSE by 3m, against ENE wall arc.
On a heather-covered spur on the hillside, almost 300m W of hut, is a vague circular platform edged with a low ridge in the E arc. This is possibly remains of a hut-circle about 10.5m diameter overall.
