Full Description
At NC 892 523 on a low ridge is a settlement of four hut circles ('A' - 'D' ) within a small field system.
Huts 'A' and 'B' are contiguous and of similar appearance, although 'A' is the better preserved, measuring 10m diameter within a wall 2.5m broad and surviving to 0.5m high. The entrance, of simple form, is in the SE arc.
Hut 'B' is 10.5m NE-SW by 9m within a low wall of indeterminate width. A gap 3m wide in NE arc probably indicates the position of the entrance. In both huts, rabbit scrapes have exposed the wall core of rubble stones.
'C', set into the lower south slopes of the ridge, is 7.5m NW-SE by 7m transversely within a wall 1.1m maximum height and 1.7m wide broadening to about 4.5m at the clubbed SE entrance.
'D' to the south is much obscured by peat and heather. It measures about 7.5m in diameter within a low wall spread to 2m. The entrance is in the south.
The field system, occupying about one hectare of the ridge, comprises some heather-covered field walls, stony lynchets and several stone clearance heaps delineating irregularly-shaped areas of stone-free ground. One plot adjacent to hut 'C' measures 20m by 10m.
Surveyed at 1/2500 1/10,000. Visited by OS (N K B) 8 6 1977.
