Earl's Cut (NAT) OS 6"map, Sutherland, 2nd ed., (1909)

About 1605 the old course of the water of Loth was stayed and diverted by Earl John, Duke of Sutherland, and made to run in a direct straight passage from he hill to sea, cut through a rock 20ft high. OSA 1798; R Gordon 1813.
