Full Description
NC92SW 33 9480 2033.
On a low rise at foot of a SE-facing slope, is a low roughly circular structure. It is 0.8m high and its flat top, about 27m diameter, though covered by loose heather-obscured stones, suggests a deliberately levelled area. There are stones in the base of the scarp in the S half which suggest revetting. On the summit periphery, in the ESE are two earthfast boulder slabs, 1.5m apart, reminiscent of a portal feature. Concentric with the W arc of the mound, about 5m distant, is a slight bank fronting a ditch 0.6m deep; the latter continues a curve towards SE but deviating away from mound, and opening out on natural downslope. There are tenuous indications ditch may have continued also round the N arc onto E side of mound to again open out on downslope in S.
The date and purpose of this structure is uncertain, but it may be the remains of a homestead and associated drainage.
