Hut circles and Enclosures (NR) (8 shown). OS 6"map, (1963)

This is a settlement of 7 hut circles (A-G) - one with an abutting enclosure - on a gentle hill-slope of westerly aspect, found during field investigation (Information from OS (W D J) 31 May 1961). Associated agriculture in a neighbourhood of hummocky ground is confined mainly to sporadic mounds of stone clearance, but there are one or two field plots, average size 25 by 20m, poorly delineated by lynchets and wasted banks (Info from OS (N K B) 27 Feburary 1968)
The huts, set into the slope, are peat covered and generally ill-preserved, but seem of similar type. Walls survive as a rubble spread varying from 1.5-2.5m broad, roughly in ratio to hut sizes. Hut 'C', the most substantial, stands to 1m in E arc; the remainder are reduced to 0.2-0.4m high. Four huts (A-D) are oval and inside dimensions range from 9 by 8m to 14 by 13m; entrances are from S or SE, all on the line of the greater axis, and in the instance of 'B', where a wall spread of 3.5m broad apparent, may be clubbed. The others (E-G) are circular, two being 5m and the third 'G' 11m, in diameter internally; entrances are in S arc. Huts 'C' and 'G' abut each other. A contemporary enclosure, abuts on the W side of hut'A'. It is about 13 N-S by 12m within a vague curving wall that in its S arc ceases 6m distant from the hut.
Revised at 1:10,560. Visited by OS (J M) 9 December 1961
