OS 6"map, (1963)

A settlement of four hut circles with an enclosure and associated field clearance heaps, discovered during field investigation on the west-facing slope of Tom na h-Iolaire.
Visited by OS (W D J) 3 June 1961

Settlement of 4 oval stone-walled huts (A-D) of similar type, in association with a field system. The huts in main are heather-covered. The published "circle" at NC 91692113, apparently 3m diameter inside a vague wall with an entrance from SSE, is not convincing, but may be a structure of a contemporary nature.
The huts range in internal size from 8m by 7m (B) to 11m by 9m (D) each with a simple entrance in SE arc on the line of the longer axis. In 3 of huts the walls stands to 0.4m and spread on average from 1.5-2m; hut 'D', set into the slope, is of more robust build even though the wall standing to 0.5m is generally peat-obscured and mutilated.
The field system, c10 hectares in area, is denoted by mounds of field clearance, spaced 15-20m apart on average in the region of the huts but more sporadic elsewhere; occasional lynchets are also evident. No cultivation plots are discernible.
Revised at 1:10,560. Visited by OS (J M) 12 January 1977
