Full Description
A settlement of three hut circles (A-C), now so overgrown with peat and heather that no structural details are discernible, was discovered during field investigation towards SE end of a low spur. 'A' NC 9412 1496, levelled into a slight slope, is about 8.5m diameter inside a wall spread from 2.5-3m. The entrance in south is protected by a curving wall which extends from the west side of the entrance for a distance of 8m.
'B' NC 9413 1493 levelled into a slight slope, is about 8.5m NNW-SSE by 7m inside a wall of 1.3m thick in the west and elsewhere spread to a maximum 2.5m. There is an entrance in SSE.
'C' NC 9414 1494, set on level ground is about 7m diameter within an ill-defined wall much depleted in the SW segment, and elsewhere mainly spread to 2.5m. There is an entrance in the SE.
The only signs of contemporary cultivation are two overgrown, clearance heaps about 17m ENE of hut A, but the rising ground directly to the NW of the settlement with its smooth, close-cropped appearance and lack of stone points to cultivation.
Surveyed at 1:10,560. Visited by OS (J M) 13 January 1976.
