Full Description

(NC 9212 1900 'A') Hut Circles (NR) (NC 9210 1905 'B')
OS 6"map, (1964)

Two hut circles (A and B) were located during field investigation. Visited by OS (J L D) 31 May 1961.

Situated under the eminence of Torr Mor on the S side, is a settlement of three hut circles ('A' - 'C')
'A' is 13.4m in diameter within a wall with intermittent inner facing stones visible. The NW arc of the hut was obscured by spoil from road construction taking place at the time of investigation. The wall is spread to an average of 2.5m, though reduced in the SE arc where the entrance is located.
'B' built onto the hill in the SW is reduced in the N and NE arcs. It measures about 11.5m SE-NW by 10.5m within a wall spread to 2.5m in the SW, with the entrance in the SE. Later clearance has been dump- ed onto the hut.
'C', scooped into the hillside on the W side, has intermittent inner and outer facing stones visible giving an average wall thickness of 1.7m widening to about 2.5m at the 'clubbed' entrance in the E. The hut's internal diameter is 10.5m. Later stone clearance has been deposited in the S arc.
A field system of six hectares mainly lying down the slope to the east surrounds the huts. It comprises clearance heaps, lynchets and traces of field walls. Measurable plots average 25m x 20m. Traces of later narrow rig are also visible in the area surrounding the huts.
Re-surveyed at 1:10,560.
Visited by OS (J B) 7 May 1976.
