Site Event/Activity record EHG2825 - Desk based assessment and walkover survey at Achlyness

A desk-based assessment and walkover survey was conducted to assess the potential impacts upon the archaeology and cultural heritage resulting from the proposed replacement water mains, extending from Achlyness to the A838. Seven sites were identified within 200m of the proposed route of the new pipeline. There is indication that this area was occupied and exploited from as early as the Bronze Age period. One site, excavated in 1993, has been identified that could potentially date to the Bronze Age period. The presence of several sites within the study area suggests that there is a moderate potential for archaeological remains to occur ranging from the early medieval period to the post medieval period. <1>
