Description

An archaeological excavation of a mound and possible routeway was carried out by members of ARCH in July 2011 at Foulis Estate, Kiltearn. The fieldwork was undertaken as part of a community project, aiming to provide an accessible training excavation to members of the local community and beyond. Two trenches were opened: the first identified a possible ditch with stony inclusions at the base of the mound and compacted soil and stone at the top of the mound; the second revealed a possible compacted surface. This project was a part of a larger series of projects run by both ARCH (Pathways into the Past course) and by the North of Scotland Archaeological Society (Roads through Ross Project). <1>
