Full Description

The Rev A Pope records a find of Viking swords in a peat bank near the house of Haimar, and dismisses them as "odd machines of rusty iron resembling ploughshares".

Some of the weapons - "ugly looking machines resembling ploughshares" - said to have been used a the Battle of Clardon Hill in 1196 (ND16NW 14 and ND16NE 16) were found in a peat moss near the Dam of Broynach (name: ND 147 668).
