Full Description
Thumbnail photo of a bothy at Badenscallie
Wester Ross Project - Cathy Dagg, 02/04
NC00NW 56 0354 0613
------
Recorded as a salmon bothy. Locally thought to be the house built for Katie Campbell, who, after her role in the Coigach riots, was allowed nowhere in the township to live, and was forced to build a house below the high water mark. However, this is also thought to be on the shore south of the burial ground.

------
The remains of this building, probably a salmon-fishing bothy, are perched on rocky ground immediately above the shore at the mouth of the Badenscallie Burn, within the area of the township of Badenscallie (NC00NW 55.00). The building measures 6.2m NE-SW by 2.9m transversely within mortared-rubble walls 0.6m thick. The side walls stand up to 1.4m high and the SW gable, which is complete, is 3.6m high, not including the chimney which rises a further 0.8m. The entrance to the building is in the NE end wall and there is a window on the SE.
This building is depicted, roofed, on both the 1st and the 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Cromartyshire 1881, sheet iii; Ross and Cromarty 1906, sheet iii).
