Full Description
This sheepfold is described in the Cultural Heritage chapter of an Environmental Statement for a proposed new wind farm. It measures approximately 12m in diameter and is well-preserved, standing to 1.2m high excluding the remnants of the turf capping. The walls are 0.7m wide at the base but taper towards the top. The lintelled entrance, which lies in the south-western arc, measures 0.8m wide by 0.8m high. The sheepfold lies in the centre of a forest ride and is now very overgrown with sedge, heather and long grass. Like the other four small sheepfolds around Upper Wathegar, it does not appear on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition map but is present on the 2nd edition. It lies well outside the improved fields associated with the farm. <1>
