Full Description

1946 aerial photographs show a small field to the north of the Upper Dounreay being occupied by military buildings. The 1946 photograph shows c. 22 buildings By 1951, 28 buildings had been constructed on site and they took up most of the field. The 1964 aerial photograph showns 29 buildings though by 1988 aerial photographs show that many of the buildings had be demolished and those still standing occupied the same area as the 1946 phase. The 1959 Ordnance Survey map (ND 06 NW) indicates 24 buildings on the site. By 1993 the only buildings remaining are those depicted on the modern Ordnance Survey. <1>
