Full Description
A double row of set stone footings extending from the shingle into the water on the west side of Loch Hope, Durness, may be the remains of a wall or pier. The site was seen during a walkover survey by C Dagg in 2011 in advance of a proposed forestry planting scheme. This was best preserved at the east, loch, end and a scatter of rubble at the west end suggested disturbance or demolition. There was no indication that the feature continued west above the shingle. It may have been the remains of a pier for landing boats or a fishing stance. Together with Site 4 (see MHG55760) it may have been one side of a contained landing and loading area for livestock. <1>
