Description

A desk-based assessment and walkover survey were conducted by C Dagg in 2011 to assess the archaeological impact of a proposed new native woodland planting and regeneration scheme on the Eriboll Estate in Sutherland. The walkover was carried out in two areas designated as 'Compartment 2' and 'Compartment 3'. A survey had been carried out for an area to the south 'Phase (or Compartment) 1' the previous year (see EHG3603). A number of features, including shielings, dyles and walls were recorded, all mostly probably dating to the early modern period, pre-dating the introduction of sheep farming at the beginning of the C19. <1>
