Full Description

476 – 481 Shielings / buildings platforms centred on NH 1883 5018. The westmost of two groups of shielings (NH15SE 7 is the other) N of the confluence of the River Meig and the Allt Coire Mhoragein above the ford on the N bank and were recorded by NOSAS in 2007 as part of the Scotland's Rural Past Project. The remains are located on a large grassy knoll. This is primarily a shieling site with evidence of 4 sub-rectangular shieling huts defined by low turf walls, the largest having internal dimensions of 3.5 x 2m. There are also 2 small levelled platforms (largest 6m x 6m) which are probably stances for timber buildings associated with the sporting estate.
On the valley floor there are some large linear tracts of fertile grass beside the river. Shieling huts are at NH 18825 50218, NH 188823 50202, NH 18834 50194 and NH 18805 50171
