Description

Stuart Farrell was commissioned by Bowlts Chartered Surveyors in late November 2004 to undertake an archaeological desktop and walkover survey on the site of a proposed housing development to the north of Dornoch. The desktop survey recognised several previously recorded archaeological sites and find spots, notably a Neolithic axe, Bronze Age cist burials, Roman brooches, and multiperiod metal detecting finds described as the best collection from the whole of Scotland. A walkover survey confirmed the existence of the Bronze Age cists. No new archaeology was encountered. The number and quality of the artefacts found on site to date indicate considerable potential for further discoveries. <1>
