Site Event/Activity record EHG66 - Walkover Survey - Killiehuntly Estate (part)

The WGS survey comprises of two compartments on the Killiehuntly Estate south-east of Kingussie, and covers in total an area of 32 ha. The scheme aims to create a mixed native woodland by new planting and the removal of exotic conifers from the small woodlands within the area. The survey area was systematically walked by a team of two archaeologists and all features of archaeological interest were described and located using a Total Station. The north-east boundary of Compartment 2 ran across open ground, not following existing fences or landmarks. Due to the uncertainty of the exact position of the boundary in the field, some of the features surveyed were found to be situated outside the WGS boundary when plotted on to the OS map base. <1>
