Description

A rapid pre-afforestation survey, by Headland Archaeology Ltd, was undertaken of 1km^2 of land at Faichemard, near Ivergarry. The survey area is located immediately to the west and south-west of loch Lundie. The eastern side of the survey area is characterised by low-lying boddy ground with rounded heather-covered knolls. Vegetation cover throughout the north, south and east sides of the survey area was predominantly heather, up to waist high in places. On the better drained slopes of Torr a' Chait, coincident with areas of birch woodland, vegetation cover was predominantly Nardus grassland and bracken, with occasional heather. Despite the tall heather, areas of tree-throw and fallen branches, ground conditions throughout the survey area for the location and identification of any upstanding remains were generally fair to good. <1>
