Full Description

Steading buildings on the opposite side of the road to the Castlehill Pavement Works & Trail. Substantial range of buildings. Fenced off as dangerous. Roofed, but probably not used except for storage <1>.

C18-C19 substantial farmstead which presumably pre-dates the early C19 pavement works. The range of buildings located in the west of the steading complex are shown on the first edition 25" OS map as a small set of long buildings set around a small courtyard. By the time of the second edition 25" OS map, c.1906, they have been extended to their present size and were used as offices for the pavement works. The main range of buildings are now mostly ruinous and derelict, although the long building on the northern side of the courtyard (the water-powered threshing barn) has retained the roof. Some of the buildings of the farmsteading were utilised as housing for the pavement works <2>.
